Sylvain was born in France as well, in 1976. With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and a knack for languages, he decided on a self-taught approach, becoming not only a prolific translator in IT (software, hardware, Web development, E-learning applications, devices, etc.), marketing, automotive, and finance, but also becoming an expert on various TM (translation memory) and terminology management software packages. A few of Sylvain’s articles appear on the Web, some of which are reproduced on this website. Of course, he handles all computer-aided translation (CAT) issues for the team whenever the need arises. Sylvain traveled around Europe and the States before heading for Asia and the tropical climate of Thailand, where he currently resides.
After a peaceful 35 years in his native Belgium, Maurice encountered violent upheavals during two stays in the Middle East, first in Israel in 1973, then two years later in Beirut. In 1980, with his American wife and their two very young sons, he moved to the United States. Having taught French in Belgium, Lebanon and the American Midwest, he settled in the New York area and became a programmer-analyst for a major US insurance company. Over a 25-year career in data processing, he kept abreast of technological advances in that fast-paced environment. In his present work as a freelance translator, he combines the use of up-to-date translating software with language skills acquired over decades of travel, reading, and daily use of satellite TV and the Internet. Colleagues and clients know they can rely on his experience and advice for localization techniques and CAT tools of the trade. Maurice translates from English into French. He specializes in IT, reinsurance, accounting, press releases, and tourism.
