The USCIS rule (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)) does not name who may translate, but the translator must certify that the translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent in both languages, so we recommend an independent professional translator. A translation without that certificate does not meet the requirement.

A birth certificate does not have to be American, and it does not have to go to a US office. We translate birth certificates issued in any country, for authorities in any country. In Spain, for example, residency, citizenship, and Registro Civil filings call for a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a translator authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC). Whichever authority receives the file decides what it accepts, so we confirm the format with you before we start.

It is issued on the original by the competent authority of the country that issued the certificate, and we coordinate it for you, then translate the certificate together with the text of the apostille. Will USCIS accept your birth certificate translations?
USCIS does not approve translation vendors, and the receiving officer decides acceptance on the filing as a whole. What we control is the translation: it includes a signed Certificate of Accuracy in the form USCIS asks for under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). The certificate states that the translator is competent in both the source and target languages and that the translation is accurate and complete. We translate into English from Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Korean, and dozens of other languages, with the certificate USCIS asks for.
How long does a birth certificate translation take?
Most birth certificates are one to two pages and are completed quickly. Faster delivery can be arranged case by case for urgent immigration deadlines. If your case has a specific filing date, let us know when you request a quote.
Does a certified translation also need to be notarized?
Not for most purposes. USCIS, the State Department, and most educational institutions require a certified translation but not notarization. Notarization adds a notary public's authentication of the translator's signature and is sometimes required by state courts or local government offices. We offer notarization as an add-on service if your receiving authority specifically requires it.
Do you also handle the apostille for a birth certificate?
Yes. An apostille authenticates the original certificate and is issued by the competent authority of the country that issued it, not by the translator. We coordinate it for you and translate the certificate together with the apostille, so the whole file travels as one set.
